Google’s own rules that apply to you

Quoted from Google’s guidelines, so every change below can be defended if the profile is ever reviewed.

RuleWhat Google says
Two brands same location“If your business location combines two or more brands, do not combine the brand names into a single Business Profile. Instead, pick one brand’s name for the Business Profile. If the brands operate independently, you may use a separate profile for each brand at this location.”
Duplicates“Do not create more than one page for each location of your business, either in a single account or multiple accounts.”
Categories specific“Choose categories that are as specific as possible, but representative of your main business.”
Hours“Provide your regular customer-facing hours of operation.”
Phone local“Use a local phone number instead of a central call center helpline number whenever possible.”
Reviews request“Remind customers to leave reviews: To leave reviews, you can ask customers to visit a Google link or scan a QR code.”
Reviews no selective“Discourage or prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews from customers”
Practitioner solo“If a practitioner is the only public-facing practitioner at a location and represents a branded organization, it's best for the practitioner to share a Business Profile with the organization. Create a single Business Profile, named using the following format: [brand/company]: [practitioner name].”
Photos“Add at least three great exterior photos to help customers recognize your business.”

The optimisation, step by step

Each step is allowed by the rules above. Minutes are the time it takes at the keyboard.

Do not add divorce or family-law categories to the PI profiles if Idaho Divorce Law Firm keeps its own profile.
    15 min
  7. HoursHours: if the offices really are by appointment only, leave regular hours blank as Google instructs. Better, staff fixed weekday hours (e.g. Mon-Fri 8:30-5) at the office and list those, and drop 'by appointment only' from the site.

Put the other number, if kept, only in 'additional phones'.

  9. Website linksWebsite links: point the Boise GBP to https://joefricklaw.com/personal-injury/ (the Boise PI page). 16. Practitioner profile for JoePractitioner profile for Joe: do NOT create one for now. Joe Frick Law is named after Joe, so the firm profile already carries his name. If he is the only public-facing lawyer at an office, Google's guidance is one shared profile. If Suite 302 has several public-facing lawyers (Yobi names James Vavrek too), a separate practitioner profile titled just 'Joe Frick' would be allowed. It would be a third Boise listing beside two firm profiles, though, and he must not have one per specialty.

Reviews: the gap that decides the pack

The firms in the Boise pack hold 86 to 400 reviews each. One request to every client at the close of every case is the whole system.

  1. Text the review link the day the case closesGoogle’s short “ask for reviews” link, from Joe’s phone, with one line of thanks.
  2. Ask everyone, win or loseAsking only happy clients breaks Google’s rules (quoted above).
  3. Reply to every review within a weekTwo sentences. Never confirm the person was a client.

Google Maps blocks automated reading, so categories, photos and posts for each profile need a 10-minute look in Maps with the firm logged in. Everything marked – above is unknown, not zero.
